What is a microenvironment? A microenvironment is simply the space between your skin and the product. For example, think about a conventional first-aid bandage. Its basic purpose is to help accelerate wound-healing by protecting the wound from dirt, water, and germs; however, the bandage creates a microenvironment which lacks oxygen that can counter-productively reduce the speed of healing — decreasing the full potential of the bandage. When our technology is applied to the conventional bandage, we create a more favorable microenvironment by boosting oxygen levels and lowering the pH, which have both been shown to improve wound-healing and outcomes.

Oxygen and Your Skin
Aside from holding our bones and organs in, our skin also protects us from infections, regulates our bodily temperature, and protects us from the harmful effects of ultraviolet radiation. The skin is an amazingly adaptive and durable organ. Despite its durability however, skin can be breached by a cut, scrape or burn.
When the skin is breached, rapid healing and the prevention of infection is critical. Studies have shown that oxygen plays an important role in the healthy maintenance of our skin, specifically in wound healing and the prevention of infection. As the skin heals from a cut for example, there is an increased demand for energy in the form of ATP to fuel cell repair, cell proliferation and collagen synthesis. Oxygen is also required during the healing process to protect against infection. There is an enzyme called oxygenase, which requires oxygen to produce reactive oxygen species (ROS), such as peroxide and superoxide. These chemicals kill bacteria by breaking the chemical bonds in bacterial RNA and DNA through oxidation. The exact function of oxygen in wound healing is unknown, but it is very clear that in low oxygen environments, healing is slowed, while in high oxygen environments, healing is accelerated and the risk of infection is lowered.
In addition to wound healing and the prevention of infection, oxygen can also be used in other ways. Active oxygen forms such as peroxide, for example, can be used to lighten skin tones and smooth over age spots and blemishes. We utilize the natural benefits of oxygen in all of its products.
TO2M utilizes the healthful benefits of oxygen in products such as respirator masks, menstrual pads, skin-tone balancing pads, diapers and underpads. Although many of these products have been around for decades, TO2M revitalizes them by introducing a controlled form of oxygen,creating products which function more efficiently and promote greater health.
Respiratory masks function by filtering air through a series of layers, each consisting of different materials. In some cases, the masks may also posses a static electric charge which helps to impede particulate matter as well.
TO2M masks belong to the N-95 class of respiratory masks. Like conventional masks, our masks filter air through a series of layers, removing particulate matter and microbes as air transitions from the outside to the inside of the masks. However, TO2M respiratory masks go far beyond conventional N-95 masks, by utilizing oxygen.
Our patented technology absorbs the moisture and CO2 and releases oxygen in exchange. The result is a dryer environment inside the mask, making it easier to breathe and less irritating to the skin. As a result, you can wear TO2M masks longer and more comfortably, making it perfect for healthcare professionals or people living in dusty or polluted environments.
Most women would acknowledge that the monthly menstrual cycle is not without some degree of discomfiture. A natural part of the menstrual cycle, is the release of fluid and blood, through the vagina. This fluid and blood is the remnant of the inner uterine lining which sloughs off in response to a decrease in the levels of hormones progesterone and estrogen. Many women use tampons and feminine pads to absorb the blood and other fluids. Traditional feminine pads sole function is to absorb menstrual fluids. However, traditional pads have one major flaw. As the days goes on, the pad traps moisture creating a warm, humid,nutrient-rich environment which can irritate the delicate labia and creates a perfect breeding ground for bacteria and yeast.
Since traditional pads only absorb moisture, women who use them often suffer the discomfort of constant irritating dampness as the pad reaches its maximum ability to absorb moisture. Once the pad is full, the pad may swell, leading to chafing. This can cause the skin to become irritated and develop painful bumps. The moist, alkaline environment is also a breeding ground for bacteria and yeast. Some women, who are especially susceptible to infection, routinely suffer from the effects of yeast infection, every time they menstruate. TO2M pads effectively alleviate this problem by actively releasing pure oxygen when exposed to moisture and liquid. The introduction of oxygen creates a healthier environment around the vulva, helping to lower the risk of infection.
Another important benefit of our pads, is its ability to create an acidic environment in and around the feminine pad. At first glance, this may seem like a negative factor. However, the optimal environment for the vagina is a slightly acidic one with a pH balance of approximately 4.85. The vagina normally contains lactobacilli, a beneficial bacteria which produces lactic acid and hydrogen peroxide. Lactic acid and hydrogen peroxide in turn inhibit the growth of yeast and other harmful organisms such as Gardnerella Vaginalis, the cause of bacterial vaginosis.
Oxygen, by lowering the pH between the pad and the vagina, encourages a healthy environment for the lactobacilli, thereby preventing infection. Conventional pads on the other hand create a more basic or alkaline environment, which lowers the efficacy of the lactobacilli and encourages yeast infections and bacterial vaginosis. Reducing the risk of infection during menstruation is extremely important. During menstruation, the female body is especially prone to infection. This is due to the fact that the pH balance in the vagina is higher and more acidic. Furthermore, the opening of the cervix is dilated to a greater degree than normal. This combined with the fact that that endometrial lining is no longer available to filter the bloodstream means the body is more susceptible to infection. TO2M pads also help create a dryer more comfortable environment, reducing irritation to the delicate skin on the labia.
Diapers and Underpads
TO2M Inc. also produces a line of diapers and underpads designed with the same beneficial properties as the masks and feminine pads. Conventional adult and infant diapers and underpads absorb moisture through a series of layers of plastic, paper and sodium polyacrylate,a super absorbent polymer. As a result, diapers and underpads are capable of absorbing a great deal of moisture. However, once the sodium polyacrylate polymer becomes saturated, the diaper or pad will leak. This produces a moist environment which can cause irritation and chafing, leading to diaper rash. The humid environment is also conducive to the growth of bacteria and yeast, leading to infection.
Diaper rash is an irritation of the skin, typically seen in infants, however it can also affect adults who are bedridden or paralyzed. Diaper rash can take a number of different forms such as pink or red-colored skin spread over a wide or small area or as dry, peeling skin. Diaper rash can also take the form of dry raised bumps called papules or fluid filled raised bumps called pustules.
The most common cause of diaper rash is prolonged exposure of the skin to moisture.
Diaper rash can also be caused by friction, as the infant or adult moves around and the diaper rubs against the delicate skin of the bottom. Diaper rash can be caused by the effects of urine on the environment inside the diaper, against the skin. When first secreted, urine is mildly acidic with a pH of approximately 6.3 As time passes however, the urea in urine converts to ammonia, making the environment more alkaline. As the delicate skin of the buttocks is exposed to the more alkaline environment, it loses cohesion, which makes it easier for bacteria, especially from feces in the diaper, to breach the skin and cause an infection.
TO2M diapers and underpads are made with highly absorbent materials, designed to quickly remove moisture from the delicate skin on the buttocks. TO2M diapers also offer a pliable, elastic material at the waist and legs, which permits movement, while reducing chafing and helps to prevent leakage. TO2M diapers are also low profile, so they can be worn unobtrusively under clothing. The most innovative feature of TO2M diapers and underpads however, is their patented, oxygen releasing technology. As the diaper or underpad is exposed to moisture, it releases reactive oxygen. The oxygen makes the environment next to the skin less alkaline, which increases the skin’s cohesion, making it more difficult for bacteria to breach the skin and cause an infection. The release of reactive oxygen species also helps to kill bacteria and neutralize odor. The end result is a more comfortable, less infection-prone diaper and underpad.
Oxygene Parfait: Beauty Line
A new trend in the beauty industry is the desire to even out the skin-tone of the vulva and nipples in order to more closely match the skin tone of the rest of the body. With this goal in mind, TO2M offers Oxygène Parfait. Oxygène Parfait products include the feminine complexion revitalizers and the nipple complexion revitalizers. The feminine complexion revitalizers are used to even-out and balance the color of the vulva, while the nipple complexion revitalizers are used to even the tone of the nipples and areola.
For many women, the vulva, nipples and areolas are darker in tone than the rest of the body, because they possess greater melanin content. Melanin is a pigment produced by a specialized group of skin cells called melanocytes. Melanin is also produced in greater concentration when the skin is exposed to sun, producing a tan. Ironically, the appearance of a “healthy” tan actually indicates that your skin has been damaged by the sun. In response to this damage, melanin turns darker and melanocytes produce more melanin, which absorbs sunlight and help to prevent it from penetrating to the deeper skin layers.
The Oxygène Parfait feminine complexion revitalizers are designed to be worn next to the vulva, similar to a menstrual pad. As the pad is exposed to moisture from sweat or humidity, it releases reactive oxygen. Reactive oxygen evens the skin-tone by reacting with the melanin in our skin. Melanin molecules consists of single and double bonds.
The double bonds absorb and reflect certain wavelengths of light, producing the appearance of darker skin colors. The oxygen reacts with the double bonds, turning them into single bonds. This affects the way melanin molecules absorb light, the end result being a gradual lightening of the skin tone. TO2M feminine complexion revitalizers utilize oxygen therefore to gradually brighten and smooth out the complexion of the vulva without the need of expensive, harmful lasers or carcinogenic creams. TO2M feminine complexion revitalizers are not intended to function as menstrual pads however. They don’t have the same level of absorbency as the menstrual pads and should not be worn during menstruation.
